Design Assistant – Women’s Athleisure

Our client, a growing apparel brand, is seeking a Design Assistant to join their team in NYC! The Design Assistant will manage the day-to-day functions of the studio, facilitating effective communication among design, merchandising, and production departments. This role will involve coordinating event preparations, organizing samples, and supporting the creative workflow under the mentorship of senior designers.


Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the point of contact between the design team and merchandising, ensuring smooth information exchange to meet project timelines.
  • Organize and manage the storage of development and production samples.
  • Set up showrooms and presentations, including creating physical boards that showcase design ideas, color palettes, and trends.
  • Oversee sample merchandising and assist in the development of CADs and line sheets for new products.
  • Prepare for meetings with buyers and the design team, ensuring all materials are accurate and professionally presented.
  • Help organize and prepare samples for design reviews and meetings with buyers.
  • Coordinate with design and production teams for regular updates, participating in meetings, and tracking tasks and notes.
  • Maintain consistent email communication and daily interaction with designers, production staff, and outside vendors.
  • Collaborate with the Company Owner, Senior Designer, and Production Manager to ensure smooth studio operations.

Qualifications:

  • 2-5+ years of experience in the fashion industry, ideally in studio management or design assistance.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
  • Familiarity with CADs, line sheets, and showroom displays.
  • Proficient in Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) and PLM software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
