Estate and Trust Administrator / Paralegal

A prestigious law firm is hiring for an Estate Administration Paralegal to work closely with Trust and Estates attorneys on estate and trust administration, accounting, and tax matters.  

Salary depending upon experience: $140,000 to $150,000 plus paid overtime, bonus eligibility and competitive benefits starting day 1.

Location: Midtown NYC – HYBRID: 3 days in office, 2 days work from home

Hours: 9:30am-5:30pm (2 hours of OT expected per week)

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Notary Public commission required
• 5+ years of relevant estate and trust administration experience preferred
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Thomson Reuters OneSource Estate Tax, SuperForm, and HotDocs NYSBA Surrogate’s Court Forms
• Working knowledge of state and federal estate tax law, including New York Surrogate’s Court Procedures Act and EPTL

Responsibilities:
• Work closely with executors and attorneys on all aspects of estate administration from date of death to final distributions.
• Draft and file Surrogate’s Court petitions and documents, and monitor progress of probate.
• Inventory assets and determine which require protection.
• Obtain tax identification number.
• Manage valuations and transfer of assets into estate.
• Review estate records, bank, and investment accounts.
• Prepare and file estate tax returns with applicable tax authorities.
• Work with out of state counsel on estates having out of state assets.
• Review estate accountings and Handle closed estate matters.
• Provide support to tax-exempt organization clients, including reviewing wills, trusts, and court documents in connection with bequests, and preparing annual reports for organization’s auditors.
• Draft and file Surrogate’s Court petitions and documents for changes of trustee.
• Coordinate periodic income and principal distributions from trusts and the transfer of assets into trusts.
• Review investment analysis and routine trust accounting.
• Review financial records of trusts and Facilitate payments to trust beneficiaries.
• Prepare schedule of allocations to trusts under created will.
• Distribute trust assets at termination of the trust.
