Q: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received and from who?
A: This is a really tough one because I’ve received a lot of advice over the years, but I think the best piece of advice I’ve ever received was to network, and network genuinely. When I was in college, I really didn’t think it was that important. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that knowing people and feeling like you have a real connection with someone, no matter how well you know them, is invaluable. They can help you get places, and even help you with advice. I got that advice from my first boss when I was an intern, and it really paid off in the long-run, because even now, in the recruiting business, it’s all about who you know.
Q: What’s the best way to tell your current team that you’re moving on to another opportunity?
A: Go out gracefully. That is the number one thing. The way you leave is the way you’re going to be remembered. It’s really important that you don’t just say, “Today is my last day” or, “I’m leaving tomorrow.” Just let them know that you have made the decision to move on to something different, and that you’re happy to help with the transition. Provide a two weeks’ notice, but do it gracefully and professionally. And in those two weeks, make sure that you’re fully checked-in. Don’t say that you’re going to stay for two weeks and then just sit there and do nothing. Leaving a positive last impression is extremely important.
Q: What’s your favorite vice or secret indulgence?
When my husband is traveling, my favorite dinner is a cheese plate, a bowl of ice cream, and a glass of wine. Basically, all the things you shouldn’t eat for just dinner.
A: Best place for a last-minute interview outfit?
There’s lots of options, but I think H&M or Zara are the best for a last-minute outfit. They have so many basics, so you can get a simple black pair of dress pants, a blazer, or a cute blouse all in one place. When picking out your outfit, I definitely recommend going on the simpler side. Those two places always have something that you can grab quick that looks nice, will last, and can be worn over and over again.
Q: What keeps you motivated?
A: Honestly, I want to be the best. I’m really competitive with myself, so I always want to personally be the best. I want my teams to be viewed as the best and have the best reputation within an organization, within a city, within the country, and even in the world. I’m always striving to be even better than the day before, and better than all my competition.
