We are counting down the days until Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles. As a Business Connect member, we are honored to be staffing the one-of-a-kind events leading up to, and including, the biggest sporting event of the year – the 2022 Super Bowl!
We look forward to Super Bowl Sunday all year long, but what actually goes into staffing events of this magnitude? We sat down with two of our Event Team’s senior leaders, Managing Directors Dominique Curatola and Allison Kent, to hear what it takes to staff an event of such epic proportions.
Q: How did you feel when you were asked to staff the 2022 Super Bowl?
Allison: I was beyond thrilled to learn that our Event Team had been awarded the contract to provide all Game Day talent for both Game Day Fan Plaza and the VIP Tailgate party, and then subsequently being awarded all parking and transportation assistance roles. These positions are critical to creating an exceptional fan experience and it felt great to have earned such a high level of trust and partnership with the NFL and its event management partners!
Dominique: We worked so hard as a team and company to put a robust and thorough proposal together – so when we were awarded contracts to staff the Super Bowl it was truly surreal. This is the biggest game of the year for the NFL and it is an absolute honor to be trusted with staffing and on-site talent management. As a huge football fan, and someone who has attended many prior Super Bowls, I can’t wait to give fans the same, unforgettable experience I had. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Q: How many staff members does it take for an event of this size to run smoothly?
Allison: We will have over 1000 employees engaged to support the Super Bowl and have an additional 30% to serve as back-up for the inevitable no-show situations that arise in an event of this magnitude. To ensure a terrific fan experience and smooth event execution, we have a high fan-to-talent ratio. For example, there are 9,000 fans invited to the VIP Tailgate party and close to 250 staff members, a 36-to-1 ratio.
Q: How many months of preparation has it been?
Allison: The process began in early 2021 when Career Group Companies registered with the NFL’s Business Connect program to become a verified Women-Owned supplier authorized to compete for Super Bowl LVI opportunities. From there, we were invited to participate in the RFP process. We presented our proposal in August 2021 and were awarded the bid in October 2021. We immediately shifted into high gear and have been taking care of every detail to execute an amazing Game Day for both fans and our talent.
Q: What has been the most surprising part of staffing the 2022 Super Bowl?
Allison: I am always surprised at how many moving parts there are when staffing an event of this size! There are so many variables to address, above and beyond identifying the terrific talent. I love the project management and strategic partnership aspects of this type of engagement.
Q: What are you most excited for on game day?
Allison: I am excited for our workers to have this opportunity to participate in the overall joy of the Super Bowl experience. Everyone will have such a great time while working hard as a unified team.
Dominique: The best part of our job is getting onsite with our staff and watching all the moving parts come together especially with an event like the Super Bowl that has had months and months of preparation.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about the Super Bowl?
Dominique: Definitely the football! I grew up in a football household – my Grandpa was a high school football coach and my dad had the NFL channel on every day. This year I can’t wait to be a part of ensuring fans experience what Super Bowl Sunday is all about!
