Live events are back. Nearly 54% of the US population is vaccinated and we’re finally getting a glimpse of post-pandemic reality. Events that were either virtual or canceled last year are coming back in full force, whether fully in-person or by adapting to hybrid models – but what does this mean for event staffing?


After 15 months of COVID-19, concerts, business and leisure events, and trade shows are returning stronger than ever — and fans are excited to attend their favorite sporting events in person once again. 


We asked the event recruiters on Career Group Companies’ Event Team to weigh in on this new era of events staffing and what to expect when working at, or attending, live events post-COVID. 


Q: What will change when hiring for events in a post-pandemic reality?


A: The main change will revolve around new regulations and safety standards to guarantee that event attendees can have fun and enjoy themselves risk-free. According to the CDC, regulations include the size of the event, proof of vaccination upon registering and/or entering the event, ongoing cleaning standards, and health screening measures to ensure the safety of all attendees and event staff members. 


When it comes to event staffing, this will often mean finding additional personnel to enforce safety standards, or providing extra training to ensure event staff is aware of changing regulations and their role in creating a safe and enjoyable experience for guests.


Q: What will event staffers be looking for in event hires?


A: Now more than ever, event staffers will be looking for reliable hires that can provide polished and high-level customer service, and who will be flexible on new regulations or last-minute event changes. 


Punctuality and great hospitality will also be beneficial for events staff, as attendees will be trusting the event staff to comply and maintain all CDC regulations.


Q: What are the top skills for candidates looking to find event jobs in the post-pandemic era?


A: Excellent customer service skills and professionalism are a must for anyone looking to work in events. Candidates who are patient and adapt well to new challenges will thrive in this new era — as we all saw last year, things can change very quickly. To create a safe event post-pandemic, staff and event hosts should be ready to adapt quickly and do the extra work required for the safety of all in attendance.


Q: What are you most excited about when it comes to the future of event staffing?


A: Events are back in full swing! Some days it feels like nothing has slowed down, despite last year. We are excited to help our clients host major comeback events and to be a part of creating the special events that so many people have missed.
