There are so many articles out there about prepping a lunch to bring to work, it can make your head spin. But fear not, my fellow professionals! We’ve got three tips about bringing a healthy lunch to work. Affordable lunches in minutes – all it takes is a little planning…and you can do it while watching The Bachelorette!
If you’re like most of the working population, you consider it a hassle to bring your lunch to work. Because of this, many of us end up eating out on the fly, which can be unhealthy for our bodies, and our wallets. According to USA Today, the average American spends approximately $20 per week eating lunch at restaurants, which is over $1,000 per year (insert bug-eyed emoji here)!
ABC News recently reported that Americans are also averaging longer work hours than ever before. Considering most of us barely have the time to catch up on The Bachelorette after work, is it any wonder the last thing you want to do when you get home is prep lunch for the next workday?
While you’re relaxing in front of the TV with your post-work glass of wine, use a recipe like this to cook a few chicken breasts in the oven. While that’s cooking, prepare a grain like couscous, rice, or quinoa. These all cook quickly, they are healthy, and keep well in the fridge for up to a week.
Setting your alarm a few minutes earlier will give yourself some extra time to pack your lunch in the morning. Simply scoop some grains and pre-cooked chicken into a container like this one, and you’re good to go! You can even add frozen veggies directly from the bag – they microwave well, and the steam they produce while reheating in the microwave will add moisture to the rest of your packed lunch!
If you’re getting into the habit of bringing your lunch to work, keep a small stock of healthy snacks and lunchtime staples (like salad dressing) in your office breakroom in case hunger strikes throughout the day. Just make sure to write your name on everything!
When it comes to bringing your lunch to work, it’s important to remember that setting habits and planning take time. But once you figure out what works for you, you’ll be set in a routine of bringing your lunch to work, and your stomach and wallet will thank you.
